The Saints and Prayers and Help Needed

As many of you already know, my daughter is pregnant with a little girl who will be born in early October.

The baby, Abigail Marie, has a condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, which means that there is a hole in her diaphragm and currently her stomach, spleen, and parts of her large and small intestines are in her thoracic cavity. Remarkably, this can be fixed, but the problem is that it keeps her lungs from developing properly. So, she will have to have surgery as soon as she is born and it will be a long time before she leaves the hospital. This is the best case scenario.

Anyway, the reason I am writing this, aside from asking for you prayers, is that I don't think that I can keep up with the Saints very much longer. The only way I can do it is if someone helps, or if people volunteer for a lot of definite dates. I might not have time, and frankly, I'm running out of the mental wherewithal to keep up with things. I am working on something for this week, but after that, I don't know.

With regard to the prayers, week before last, the Saints post was about Ven. Andrey Sheptytsky, and a very sick little girl, Martha Charron, whose parents were praying for his intercession in her regard. A few days later, Martha went home from the hospital. Bill and I have been praying for his intercession for Abigail.

If you are interested, my daughter has a blog with about 4 posts that keeps us updated about what is going on with the baby.

  1. You have done so beautifully with the blog and the 52 Saints series. Letting the posts simply be for a bit might be good - without adding to them. Prayers for Abigail continue... especially three prayers: Thee I adore. Lord, have mercy. Into Thy hands.

  2. As you can see, I am down for Saint Joseph Cupertino which is the week after next. I will take Edward the Confessor whose feast is october the 9 - I geuss that could go in the second week of October. I'm not going to offer to do hundreds in advance. I'm going to keep offering a few as it goes along. I'm very pressed for time. Grumpy

  3. Im looking forward to Joseph Cupertino. I can surely do five more but I don't want to promise in case the semester gets too much for me. Lets take it a few weeks at a time.

    1. I am looking forward to him, too, for several reasons and one silly one which is that my name is in his name.

  4. Keeping you and family in prayer. St. Raymond of Nonnatus immediately came to mind. His feast day was Aug. 31 and he is patron saint of expectant mothers and newborns. Thank you for all the effort you put into this blog.

  6. Janet, I'm sorry to hear about this, and will remember your family in my prayers.

I've been meaning to send you another entry or two, and I will try to get those together soon. I'm not sure I can commit to more than that, however. I'd hate to promise and then not be able to follow through.

  7. Craig sent me Nicholas Owens for Sunday, and if Grumpy is slated to do Joseph of Cupertino for the next week. Are you going to be up for that, Grumpy.

Several people have volunteered posts, so I think we are set.

Thanks very much for that and especially for your prayers. Becca has an appointment with the hospital in Louisville Monday, so maybe we will find out a bit more.
