So now I'm going to go pick out carpet. I guess this is the fun part.

  2. It's called Caraway Seed. I hope it doesn't sprout.

  3. Fun? I'm seriously not sure whether you're joking or not.

    1. Right, that's why Bill wasn't invited.

Actually, it was very nerve-wracking--the idea that I would have to live with my decision for a long, long time. And I knew exactly what I wanted, but the perfect color was on the wrong style of carpet. Still, I got about as close as I could hope to have done.

  4. My initial assumption was that heavy irony lay behind the choice of phrase. Then I wondered.

  5. I just cannot imagine being a guy and not thinking it would be fun to chose a new carpet!

  7. Anonymous, you're getting ahead of yourself. First imagine not thinking it would be fun to choose a new carpet. Not only not fun, but something to be dreaded. Then let that be a first step toward imagining that you're a guy.

  8. This is why it was fun. For several years we lived in rented apartments, houses, etc. If there was carpet, it was just what was there. Sometimes it was excessively gross. Then we bought the house where we lived for 24 years. It had a good quality carpet, but it was old and it was burnt orange which is not a color that I would choose to live with, but we couldn't afford anything else. For years it got progressively more threadbear, especially in the area where the kids sat/laid to watch TV, and in the end, we just tore it out, which was what we should have done in the first place.

Then we moved to the house in Mississippi, and for the first time, I got to choose a carpet when we had to replace our floors, but I had to choose the color to go along with the existing wallpaper and trim, so there wasn't much choice.

This, then, is the very first time in my 62 years that I have actually gotten to choose for myself. I realize sitting here that the room is going to look a lot like the blog.

  9. I can certainly comprehend that intellectually, but it doesn't much "resonate" with me, as they say. My initial reaction was just like Paul's.

  10. You did well with the blog color design. Your floor coverings will also be aesthetically pleasing.
