Merry Christmas!

A very Blessed Christmas to you all. Thank you for reading this blog. My daughter and her boyfriend are staying with us and soon many children and grandchildren will arrive, so I don't have time to write anything. Here are a couple of Christmas carols from Maddy Prior and the Carnival band. I can't find a video of The Sans Day Carol, which is the one I want, but I really like these, too.

On second thought, I'm going to add a video of The Sans Day Carol by someone else, because I think this choir is such a hoot. They seem to be enjoying themselves.

Here is my tree. This picture looks like it was taken in 1942. The notable thing about the tree is that it's the first one I've had in about 5 years. For some reason, this year I really wanted one. Also, it's the first year in a while that we could afford to buy presents for anyone but the grandkids, so that has been fun, too.

We all had wine last night. Looks the angel did too.

Gloria in excelsis Deo!

  2. Sigh. I love Maddy Prior so much.

And I'm pretty fond of my friends, too. Merry Christmas!

  3. Thanks! I'm pretty fond of mine, too.

Are you coming this way at all?

  4. Yes -- the 4th-ish through probably the 10th-ish.

Well, let me be less maddening. The 4th. Probably we need to be back here around the 10th, because Ron and Joel start back to school the 12th. The rest of us will be continuing the world's most open-ended Christmas break probably until we put Ada on the plane to Rome. THEN normal life will resume.

  5. Oops, looks like we're coming and leaving earlier than I'd thought. Ron had thought classes didn't start until around the 14th -- instead they start the 8th. So we're coming the 1st through the 7th.

And I still want to get together.

  6. Great! I have to work Thursday and Friday but I think I'm otherwise unencumbered. Email me and wd can figure something out.

  7. Merry Christmas, Janet! I hope you have had a good Christmas thus far. Your tree is lovely. I'm surprised you have conifers down there at all.

    1. Thanks, Craig, same to you! We have lots of conifers, but not as many different varieties as I've seen in the northern US. I got mine off a lot, and it may have been shipped in from the north. It's kind of odd. I've never seen one like it before. It seems still to be growing, and looks like little sticks are poking out all over the tree--a porcupine tree.

    2. Ours is dying, shedding its needles all over the floor (which are then tracked through the house by toddler socks). Still, I always say that there is no substitute for a real Christmas tree.

My wife: "You know, we could get a fake Christmas tree and not have this hassle."
Me: "Except that it wouldn't be a tree."

    3. Yes, our carpet is getting pretty full of needles, too. I'm going to post another picture of it tomorrow.
